Woman Charged In Mall Handbag Theft

A Hartford woman faces a larceny charge after she allegedly stole nearly $2,200 worth of handbags from the Nordstrom store at Westfarms Mall late Monday afternoon.

Police say Tammy A. Mendes, 40, of Bedford Street picked up seven bags without looking at the prices and walked out of the store. She was detained by store security until police arrived and placed her under arrest, said authorities. The bags were recovered.

Mendes was released on bond and is due in Superior Court on January 3.
