South Windsor Police have arrested two men accused of trying to steal copper wire from a Connecticut Light and Power substation early Saturday.

Police say they caught John Pringal, 21, of Middlefield and Thomas Debaise, 21, of Durham with cutting tools and work gloves around 4:45 a.m., after they tripped an alarm at the Strong Road substation.

Officers seized their vehicle, tools, several syringes, and small amount of heroin from the men, said police. They allegedly told investigators they were trying to steal the wire to support a drug habit.

Pringal is charged with sixth-degree attempted larceny and third-degree trespassing. Debaise is charged with sixth-degree attempted larceny, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of narcotics, and third-degree trespassing.

Both men were due in Manchester Superior Court on Monday.
