Calhoun Holiday Food Drive To Distribute Meals To Hartford’s Needy

University of Connecticut men’s basketball coach Jim Calhoun, his family, players and coaches plan to distribute turkeys and holiday meal fixings to needy families in Hartford on Monday.  It’s the 13th Holiday Food Drive,  and since the project began in 1999,  more than $1.4 million has been raised for Connecticut families in need.

 

Calhoun, along with Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra,   the law firm of RisCassi and Davis, employees of Price Chopper supermarkets, Omar Coffee,  and the Hartford Departments of Families, Children, Youth and Recreation and of Health and Human Services are sponsors for the event.

They’ll be distributing meals from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. at Pope Park Recreation Center, 30 Pope Park Drive, and at St. Monica’s Episcopal Church from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
