DeStefano: Let Illegal Immigrants Vote

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ New Haven Mayor John DeStefano says he will ask the state legislature to allow illegal immigrants who live in the city to vote in municipal elections.

The New Haven Register reports  that DeStefano said Tuesday the proposal would build a more engaged community and follows the lead of other cities.

Immigrants who are in the U.S. legally or illegally and may not vote now would still be unable to vote in state or federal elections.

DeStefano, a Democrat, said illegal immigrants pay taxes indirectly through rent and send their kids to New Haven schools and should be able to vote.

In 2007, New Haven approved a program providing municipal identification cards for all residents _ including illegal immigrants _ to provide access to services such as banking and the library.

Why don’t we hang a sign on CT that says “come here, we’ll give you welfare, school your kids, pay for your food, even if your ILLEGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

    • BigRay

we already have that sign … its the large “D” next to the name of the Governor

Is DeStafano really as stupid as he sounds? Talk about a cheap. political trick to garner votes.
Frank is right, What part of ILLEGAL is DeStafano to illiterate to acknowledge?

  • BigRay

Simple fix to this …. tell DeStefano the law can pass if the illegals aren’t allowed to vote DEMOCRAT for three years. Think he would support it then?

  • mike

Don’t think for one minute this is Stefano’s idea. This is DANNY BOY’S idea. He is using Stefano as a sounding board. Remember DANNY BOY got the democRATS to give ILLEGALS in state tuition. I told you back then it was only the beginning.

Nearly twenty years ago, Eugene McCarthy warned you. “If one thinks of the classic definition of colonialism—the arrival of a large number of people who impose their cultural values and language on the preexisting society—it is hard not to define the current wave of immigration as a colonizing force on the United States. What distinguishes the United States from other colonized societies is that we have the power to prevent it, and choose not to use it. The backward societies of Asia and Africa were powerless to oppose the colonial hegemony exercised by the European powers in centuries past. We, on the other hand, have come to question whether the culture that built a society that has the world beating a path to our doors is even worth trying to preserve. In this social climate, immigration becomes an instrument of divisiveness, as it imposes new cultures and languages on American society.” 47

    You weren’t paying attention.
