Achievement Gap Task Force Hosts Pryor

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ A Connecticut task force assigned to study ways to close the achievement gap between wealthy and poor students is scheduled to hear from the state’s new education commissioner.

Stefan Pryor will address the group at its meeting Monday in Hartford, where members will also review recent data from the federal National Center for Education Statistics.

The task force is reviewing causes and proposing solutions to the gap between wealthy and poor students in academic progress, graduation rates and other indicators.

Pryor started as Connecticut’s education commissioner in October, and says closing that gap is critical so children from all backgrounds and communities have equal chances at success.

The task force’s meeting Monday starts at 10 a.m. in the Legislative Office Building in Hartford, and is open to the public.
