For the third straight year, Hartford’s three trauma centers are the driving force behind a gun buyback program in Hartford.

Firearms can be exchanged for gift cards this Saturday at the Community Renewal Team at 555 Windsor Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Handguns and revolvers can be exchanged for $75 gift cards; shotguns or rifles can be exchanged for $25 gift cards.

The guns should be unloaded and placed in a clear plastic bag, and inside a paper bag or box, according to organizers.

The program is a partnership between Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Hartford Hospital, and Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, along with the City of Hartford, Hartford Police, and the Hartford State’s Attorney’s Office.

During the first two years of the effort, 170 firearms were collected.
