Tiffany Hayes scored 24 points to help No. 4 Connecticut beat Division II Pace 85-35 in an exhibition Wednesday night. Bria Hartley added 16 points and eight assists while Stefanie Dolson scored 13 for UConn.
The Huskies broke open what had been a relatively close game with an 18-4 run midway through the first half. Hayes had six points and an assist in the spurt, which gave them a 34-15 lead just before halftime. Already comfortably ahead, UConn turned the game into a rout by scoring 21 of the first 25 points in the second half. Margo Javadifar led the Setters with 14 points. UConn forward Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, one of the nation’s top freshmen, did not play because of a minor calf injury.
After winning their two exhibitions by a combined 99 points, the Huskies begin regular season play on Sunday against Holy Cross.
