Submarine Returns To Groton

GROTON, Conn. (AP) _ The USS Springfield is returning to the U.S. Navy’s submarine base in Groton as a six-month deployment around the Middle East ends.

The Los Angeles-class attack sub and its 135 crew members are due back at the base on Thursday.

The Springfield left its home port on May 11 to help with operations in the Navy’s Central Command area, which includes the Arabian Gulf, Red Sea, Gulf of Oman and parts of the Indian Ocean.
Officials say the crew visited Limassol, Cyprus, in the eastern Mediterranean Sea during their deployment, which supported national security interests and maritime security operations.
The crew includes 15 officers and 120 enlisted sailors.
