HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – Officials with the Travelers Championship golf tournament say this year’s PGA Tour event generated more than $1 million for charities throughout New England.
Nathan Grube, the tournament director, says it’s the third consecutive year that the tournament, which gives all of its net proceeds to charity, has topped the $1 million mark. This year’s money – $1,035,000 – was given to more than 100 nonprofit organizations.
Tournament officials said Wednesday that since The Travelers Companies Inc. became the title sponsor in 2007, the tournament has donated over $5 million to charities, and had an estimated economic impact of $135 million for the state of Connecticut.
The tournament, won this year by Fredrik Jacobson, is played in June at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.
