Arrest Made In New Britain Stabbing Death

State police have made an arrest in the death of a man found stabbed in New Britain Friday. Police were called to 127 Booth Street around 6:20 a.m. Friday and found a man dead at the scene. The suspect, 46-year-old Jan Gawlik of 127 Booth Street, New Britain, was at the scene and was charged with murder and third-degree assault of an elderly person.

The victim has been identified as Gawlik’s father, 91-year-old Jozef Gawlik. His death is being investigated by the Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime Squad because Jozef Gawlik is related to a member of the New Britain Police Department.

Jan Gawlik is being held on a $1 million bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in New Britain Superior Court on Monday.
