HOPKINTON, R.I. (AP) – Hopkinton officials are fighting proposed tolls on Interstate 95 near the Connecticut line.
The Westerly Sun reports that the town sent to the Federal Highway Administration letters from residents opposing the idea.
Some opponents in Hopkinton say motorists will clog local roads to avoid the toll. The town also says it was not consulted.
Rhode Island’s Department of Transportation filed an application in June asking the federal government for permission to open tollbooths on both sides of the highway in Hopkinton.
Rhode Island Department of Transportation Director Michael Lewis said the public will have opportunities weigh in on the toll proposal.
