STORRS, Conn. (AP) _ A university administrator from Iowa has been selected as the University of Connecticut’s first vice president of economic development.
UConn President Susan Herbst introduced Mary Holz-Clause at Wednesday’s meeting of the university’s trustees, calling her an outstanding leader with extensive experience in linking higher education and economic development.
Holz-Clause comes to UConn from Iowa State University, where she is associate vice president for extension and outreach. She starts in Storrs on Dec. 2 at an annual salary of $230,000.
Her duties will include working with state, local and business officials on UConn’s role in creating jobs, developing a skilled work force, using new technology for commercial purposes and helping businesses grow.
She will also oversee specific UConn projects and collaborate with administrators on curriculum and research that meet industries’ needs.
