Schools Locked Down After Suspicious Person Flees Traffic Stop

NORTH STONINGTON, Conn. (AP) _ A lockdown has been ordered for schools in North Stonington as Connecticut state police search the area for a person who fled on foot after a traffic stop.

State police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance says the lockdown was imposed Monday as a precaution. Officers were looking for the person in a wooded area near the schools.

Vance said it was not immediately clear why the person fled.

Afternoon kindergarten classes were canceled.
