Construction Worker Killed On Route 9 Project
A dump truck carrying ground-up asphalt struck and killed a construction worker on a freeway paving project.
State Police identified the victim as Dale Perzan, 54, of Kensington, who was on a milling and resurfacing job Wednesday night on Route 9 south near Exit 2 in Old Saybrook.
State Department of Transportation spokesman Kevin Nursick said Perzan was reported to have been pinned under the dump truck for several minutes before police got to the scene.
Perzan was employed by Costello Industries, a construction company based in Newington.
The Department of Transportation’s website says the construction project began Monday and is expected to end Sept. 28.
