University of Connecticut officials have started reviewing applications for the new position of vice president for economic development.
UConn President Susan Herbst says many candidates nationwide have expressed interest, including some she considers “stellar.”
She says the university plays a major role in creating jobs in Connecticut, developing a skilled work force, using new technology for commercial purposes and helping businesses grow.
The new vice president will work with state and business officials on those issues. The executive will also oversee specific UConn projects and collaborate with administrators on curriculum and research that meet industries’ needs.
UConn officials started advertising the job last month but did not set a hiring deadline, saying they will take resumes until the spot is filled. A salary range has not yet been set.
