TUESDAY-Sept 13 If you thought their wasn’t much to cheer about in UConn’s 24-21 loss at Vanderbilt on Saturday night, you aren’t alone. It was a game for the taking but the Huskies made too many mistakes and not nearly enough big plays.
Obviously, Johnny McEntee’s performance has been highly scrutinized. I don’t think the job is permanently his by any means. I think all three QB’s will be in contention for the bulk of the playing time against Iowa State and after a week of practice, a decision will be made.
Lyle McCombs again rushed for over 100 yards, it’s hard to remember any player rushing for 100+ in their first two varsity games, but 74 of his 118 yards came in the first quarter. Vanderbilt won the battle up front against the UConn O-Line and controlled the game.
The UConn D Line again played well, in fact, the entire defense played well but for three plays. Those three plays accounted for 130 0f Vandy’s 259 yards of total offense. I think this is a unit that will play better each and every week.
And Byron Jones punt block and recovery for touchdown signalled the turnaround for the Huskies to eventually take a short lived lead
With a Friday Night game vs Iowa State, the coaches show is Wednesday from 6:35 to 7:35. Offensive linesman Gary Bardzak and Mike Ryan are on in the first half hour and Coach Pasqualoni after the 7 pm news.
More on the game later in the week!
