Safe Washes Up On Beach

MILFORD, Conn. (AP) _ A Milford family cleaning the beach in front of their shorefront home found a safe amid the other debris that washed ashore from Tropical Storm Irene.

Victor Lamberti tells the New Haven Register  the 2-foot tall green safe, weighing about 50 pounds, was inside a torn-up wooden cabinet.

The Lamertis don’t know what’s in the safe. They took it to the local police department, which is trying to determine where it came from. Officer Jeffrey Neilsen says officers may open the safe as they look for clues.

If nobody claims the safe within the next six months, the Lambertis can keep it.

But Victor Lamberti says he’s hoping the original owner hears of the find and comes forward.
