Plea Bargain Sends Man To Prison Two To Five Years In Child’s Sexual Assault

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ A 73-year-old man accused of sexually abusing a Hartford girl beginning when she was just 7 years old has accepted a plea bargain that calls for him to serve two to five years in prison.

The Hartford Courant reports  that Clemente Martinez pleaded guilty to felony risk of injury to a minor in Hartford Superior Court on Wednesday. Sentencing was set for Nov. 4.

Prosecutors say Martinez sexually assaulted the girl in Hartford from 2004 to 2006. Under the plea bargain, prosecutors dropped two counts of first-degree sexual assault that carry 10 to 25 years in prison apiece.

Martinez pleaded guilty under the Alford doctrine, meaning he didn’t admit guilt but conceded there was enough evidence to be convicted. He remains detained on $750,000 bail.
