Man Pulled From Car After Driving Into Sound

A Branford man was rescued Wednesday after he drove his car into Long Island Sound.  The incident happened around 2:40 p.m.  Police say the 90 year old driver somehow lost control of his car at a town marina and drove over a rock jetty into the water.

That’s when two bystanders, Dennis Buckley of Fairfield and Libby Kingsbury of Guilford jumped into the water and pulled the victim to safety.  Police say the car was almost completely submerged by the time it was fished out of the water.

Witnesses report the man was driving at a slow speed attempting to park the vehicle at the time.  The driver was not seriously injured and was not hospitalized.  The investigation is continuing.
