The town of Westport will be the first municipality to receive an electric car-charging station as part of a Connecticut Light & Power research project.
The utility is opening the new station Monday to study electric car owner’s recharging habits.
The company is working with local governments and businesses to install charging stations around Connecticut free in exchange for gathering information about use. Electric car ownership has recently been increasing as more affordable models have hit the car market.
Other areas getting charging stations include Mansfield, Torrington and West Hartford.
