One Dead, One in Critical Condition After Accident in Union

A 75-year-old Pennsylvania woman is dead and another man is in critical condition following an accident on Interstate 84 East in Union Friday evening. The accident happened shortly after 5 p.m., when the vehicle, operated by Harold Zechman, 75, went down an embankment just west of Exit 74 in Union. Passenger, Beatrice Zechman, was trapped underneath the vehicle and was pronounced dead on the scene upon arrival of emergency personnel.

Harold Zechman was trapped within the vehicle. He was flown via Lifestar to UMass Medical Center with severe lacerations and broken bones. Both lived together in Stouchsburg, Penn. The vehicle was a Pennsylvania-registered license plate.
