Lanes on Interstate 84 closed near exit 40, Corbins Corner late Friday morning, after a truck went down an embankment. The Department of Transportation says cleanup could take into the early afternoon. Some lanes of Interstate 84 opened after about four hours, in time for the afternoon commute. Traffic congestion resulted on local streets, as ramps to the highway closed and drivers tried to maneuver their way around the heavily traveled route.
Police say it appears the tractor trailer carrying a cargo of juices sideswiped a flatbed truck and both drivers lost control. The tractor trailer went over the embankment, striking a utility poll alongside New Britain Avenue.
The driver of the tractor trailer truck was killed. State Police identify him as John J. Dilliplane, 47, of Philadelphia, PA. The flatbed driver was injured. He’s identified as David L. Helms, 61, of Milford, PA.
