Distracted Driving Blamed For Accident Which Closed I-91

WALLINGFORD, Conn. (AP) _ State police say they’ve charged a man with distracted driving they say caused a two-truck crash that shut down Interstate 91 northbound in Wallingford during the morning rush hour.

Troopers say 26-year-old Anthony Brinson of East Hartford was removing a GPS unit from his box truck’s windshield when he drifted from the center lane into the right lane and struck a tanker truck carrying 47,000 pounds of food oil shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday between exits 15 and 16. None of the oil spilled out of the tanker.

Both drivers were taken to hospitals for minor injuries.

All three northbound lanes were closed for more than an hour, but the right shoulder was kept open.

There’s no phone listing for Brinson and it’s not clear if he has a lawyer.
