Run-off from recent heavy rains has led to elevated bacteria levels at beaches at some Connecticut state parks,  and that has prompted the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to close the swimming areas today.

The affected areas are East Beach at Rocky Neck State Park in Niantic (West Beach is open, )  Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, Silver Sands State Park in Milford, Chatfield Hollow State Park in Killingworth,
Kettletown State Park in  Southbury and Wharton Brook State Park in Wallingford.

Results on new testing will be available Wednesday for all areas except Rocky Neck.  Rocky Neck will be re-tested on Wednesday,  with results available Thursday.
