Middletown Teen Found Safe

The Middletown teen with a form of autism who went missing last week was found safe in Virginia, more than 500 miles away.

A sheriff’s deputy found 17-year old Nathan Carman while responding to a report of a suspicious person.

Carman was last seen on Thursday, when he left his Middletown home on his bicycle to go fishing in Westbrook. Surveillance video showed him getting off a bus in New Haven.

Police say Nathan, who has Asperger syndrome, took a bus to Virginia and bought a scooter that he planned to ride to Florida.

Nathan’s parents say he had been distraught over the death of his horse. He was carrying pictures of the horse when he was found.
