Wallingford Police say a local man was traveling more than 150 miles an hour in a Ford Mustang before he crashed on Christian Street May 27, seriously injuring three of his passengers. Police say Channing T. Cooney’s blood alcohol level was .191%– over twice the legal limit.

Cooney turned himself in Thursday morning to face charges in the crash, from which the victims continue to recover, said police.

Authorities say the car crashed in the area of Old Durham Road, slamming into a utility pole and trees.

Cooney’s charged with three counts of second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, driving under the influence, reckless driving, disregarding an officer’s signal, and failure to drive in the proper lane.  He’s free on $35,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on August 16th.
