HADDAM, Conn. (AP) _ A lightning strike is being blamed for a barn fire in Haddam that left one horse dead and the barn’s owner with minor burns.
Firefighters say the blaze started as severe storms moved through the area at about 7 p.m. on Monday.
The owner of the barn was injured trying to save two horses from the blaze. One of the animals, a 10-year-old quarter horse, suffered severe burns and was euthanized. The other horse was not injured.
The 12-by-25-foot horse barn was destroyed.
