Sex Offender Faces Prison For Assaulting Boy

NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) – A 47-year-old convicted sex offender from Killingly faces a 10-year prison sentence for sexually assaulting an 8-year-old boy.

James Pendergast is scheduled to be sentenced Monday in New London Superior Court on charges of sexual assault and having illegal sexual contact with a minor.

Police say Pendergast was already on the state’s sex offender registry and on probation for a 2003 conviction involving a child.

Police say they begin investigating Pendergast last summer after the boy’s parents complained after Pendergast gave their son gifts and a ride home from Finn Beach in Voluntown.
