Heat Strikes Girl Scouts at Camp

Twelve Girl Scouts have been treated for heat-related problems at a scout camp on Candlewood Lake.

New Fairfield First Selectman John Hodge says emergency crews from three towns and a doctor from Danbury responded to Candlewood Girl Scout Camp on Thursday night.

None of the girls required hospitalization, but Hodge says they spent the night in the camp’s afeteria after workers brought in industrial fans to help cool them off.

Hodge says the town’s health director will be meeting with camp officials on Friday to discuss plans or next few days, when temperatures are expected to approach 100 degrees.
