Trumbull Family Suing Over Gym Class Injury

The family of a Trumbull High School student is suing the town and the Board of Education after being struck in the head by a tennis ball in gym class.

Kristen Sileo’s lawyer says she was injured while students were playing a baseball-like game with a racket and ball. Sean McElligott says the school was negligent in allowing the game in such a confined space, and did not give students any protective equipment.

McElligott says the teen suffered a traumatic brain injury, memory loss and has persistent post-concussion syndrome from the incident, which happened in 2008, when she was 14-years old. Sileo can only take one test a day in school and had trouble with spatial subjects, like geometry.

Trumbull Superintendent Ralph Iassogna declined to comment on the case, because of the ltigation.

Sileo’s family is seeking a minimum of $15,000 to cover medical expenses.
