Boaters Rescued In Long Island Sound

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ The Coast Guard says it has rescued five people from a boat that was sinking in Long Island Sound.

Coast Guard spokesman Thomas McKenzie says the rescue took place at 10 p.m. Wednesday night and nobody was injured.

Authorities said Thursday that passengers aboard the 32-foot pleasure boat issued a mayday call that the boat was taking on water.

A rescue crew was dispatched from Coast Guard Station New Haven and found the troubled boat 7 miles south of New Haven harbor.

Officials said the passengers were transferred to the Coast Guard vessel as their own boat was sinking.

The passengers were dropped off at a marina in Branford.
