Death Of Springfield Woman Found After Fire Is Investigated As Homicide
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) _ Authorities say the death of an elderly woman who was found dead inside her blazing home in Springfield is being investigated as a homicide.
Firefighters responding to a blaze at the home of 81-year-old Doris Alzak found her seated in a chair in the living room on Monday. She was already dead.
Authorities announced Thursday that they investigating the death as homicide. They appealed for anyone with information to contact police.
Hampden District Attorney Mark Mastroianni (Mas-tree-AH’-nee) says final autopsy results are pending.
Police previously said a delivery person spotted smoke and fire coming from the house and called emergency workers.
Firefighters had to break in the front door to reach the blaze, which was contained to the living room.
Police said there was no sign the house was broken into.
