Note:  Late Wednesday afternoon, State Police released word of another 57 layoffs, not included in the list released earlier in the day and not included in this story below.  State Police Lieutenant Paul Vance says 56 troopers were notified,  with one more notice to be issued.  All were members of the most recent graduating class of troopers and will be laid off effective August 24.

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ The Malloy administration will lay off 328 state employees in the first wave of job cuts as it seeks to balance the two-year, $40.1 billion budget.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy released details of job reductions Wednesday. The governor’s office says the Department of Corrections will take the brunt of the layoffs as it loses 222 jobs. Of those, 191 are correction officers.

The state plans to close the Bergin Correctional Institution in Mansfield in August and the Enfield Correctional Institution in Enfield by October.

The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services is losing 89 jobs and the remaining cuts are from three other agencies.

Malloy said Tuesday that because of state rules governing layoffs, employees can be required to leave in two, four or six weeks.

seems the layoffs reflect how the unions voted

There should be no 2nd chances for the unions to
change their voting process. Unless of course the public
can vote again on their tax increases. There was a big hurry to vote the
tax increases in but it sure is taking a long time to lay off 4,500
    employees.
