BERLIN, Conn. (AP) – Authorities used tear gas to end a standoff after a stabbing inside a hotel room on the Berlin Turnpike.

Police say 32-year-old Isaiah Boucher of Waterbury was taken into custody just after 3 a.m. at the Best Western Plus hotel in Berlin.

Berlin police, Meriden police and a New Britain SWAT team, converged on the hotel after receiving a report of a violent domestic dispute just before 9 p.m. Thursday.

Police Chief Paul Fitzgerald said Boucher apparently stabbed a female acquaintance in the room. The woman was able to leave the hotel and was taken by ambulance to Hartford Hospital. She was reported in serious condition Friday morning.

People staying in adjacent rooms were evacuated.

Authorities spent six hours talking to the man by cellphone before entering the hotel.
