80 State Guard Members Bound For Afghanistan

EAST GRANBY, Conn. (AP) _ Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is scheduled to attend a set to bid farewell to 80 Connecticut troops who are headed to Afghanistan.

Malloy is scheduled to attend the send-off ceremony Wednesday afternoon for members of the 103rd Civil Engineer Squadron and 103rd Security Forces Squadron.

The two squadrons are scheduled to be deployed next week. The civil engineering squadron is expected to perform light construction and facility repair.

The send-off ceremonies will be at the Connecticut Air National Guard Base in East Granby.

Earlier in the day, the governor is scheduled to visit the construction site of police headquarters in New Britain.

The project is part of the Jobs Funnel Program that prepares qualified residents who are out of work or under-employed for construction jobs and a career track in the building trades industry.
