Specialists From Mystic Will Study Rhode Island Whale Deaths

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (AP) _ Officials are trying to determine what caused the death of two whales that washed up in shallow water at a Rhode Island beach.

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management was called early Monday to Second Beach in Middletown, where an adult whale and juvenile whale were found stranded.

The juvenile was already dead, and the adult died shortly after officials arrived.

Specialists from Mystic Aquarium in Mystic, Conn., have been called in to review the whales’ condition and perform a necropsy to determine what caused their deaths.
