This Fourth of July is proving to be a popular day to head for the state’s parks and beaches.

The department of Energy and Environmental Protection says the parking area at Squantz Pond in New Fairfield filled up by about 9 a.m,  and the one at Rocky Neck in Niantic about an hour and a half later.
New Haven’s Lighthouse Point Park, Pattaconk Lake state Park in Chester,  Burr Pond in Torrington and Indian Well in Shelton all  closed to additional visitors before noon.
