HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ A Meriden man has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison for selling two high-powered semi-automatic rifles to an undercover law enforcement officer.

The U.S. Attorney’s office said Friday that 33-year-old Kennedy Johnson was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Hartford to eight years and nine months in prison.

Prosecutors say Johnson pleaded guilty last year to unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and admitted he had engaged in unlawfully dealing in firearms.

Johnson had previously been convicted of robbery, unlawful restraint, risk of injury to a minor and sale of drugs. He tried to sell the rifles to an undercover law enforcement officer in 2009.

Johnson has been detained since his arrest on December 17, 2009.
