Missing Kayaker Identified As Connecticut Man

BANKS, Idaho (AP) _ Officials have released the name of an expert kayaker who is missing in the Payette River in Central Idaho.

Valley County Sheriff’s Lt. Dan Smith says 19-year-old Stephen Forster of Wilton, Conn., is feared drowned after an accident around noon Tuesday. He is considered an expert kayaker and was in an area of rapids classified as very difficult to extremely difficult when he submerged and didn’t resurface.

Smith says Forster’s kayak, which sustained heavy front-end damage, was found about four miles downstream. His life vest also has been located.

Smith says the water level is too fast and high to search for Forster.
