Drowning Victim Apparently Returned To Sinking Truck

VOLUNTOWN, Conn. (AP) _ A man has drowned in Voluntown after apparently returning to a sinking truck after escaping the vehicle.

The pickup went into Doeneville Pond late Tuesday night.

The Norwich Bulletin reports that a female passenger told police she and the driver escaped the vehicle, but he went back to the sinking truck retrieve something and never surfaced.

The man’s body was found in about 4 feet of water near the truck, which was about 10 feet from the shore.

It’s not clear why the truck went into the pond.

The victim’s name has not been released.
