HENLEY, England (AP) _ American crews won every race against
English boats to open the five-day Henley Regatta on Wednesday.

There were five victories in the first round of the Temple Cup
for student eights.

Yale beat St. Hild and St. Bede College from Durham University
by 11/4 lengths, and the Florida Institute of Technology won by the
same margin against Cambridge despite clipping the wooden booms
that mark the perimeter of the course just after the start.

Harvard rallied to beat the University of the West of England by
23/4 lengths, the University of California defeated University of
Warwick by 43/4 lengths, and the University of Virginia topped the
University of East Anglia by 21/4 lengths.
