Derailment Causes Metro-North, Amtrak Problems

A derailed piece of work equipment halted Metro-North train service between Bridgeport and Fairfield Friday night. A railroad spokeswoman says the mishap occurred around 10:40 p.m., and affected about a half dozen late-night trains Friday and a number of trains early Saturday.

No one was hurt in the derailment, said a railroad spokeswoman.

Bus service was being provided between Bridgeport and Fairfield for Metro-North passengers before service was restored around 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

The accident also halted Amtrak service between New Haven and Stamford late Friday and early Saturday.
