Koi Pond Victims Identified As Grandmother And 2-Year-Old

GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) _ Greenwich police have identified a 2-year-old boy and a 67-year-old woman who appear to have drowned in a shallow pond for exotic koi fish.

Police identified the victims Friday as Anna Furano and her grandson, Massimo Furano.

Police said their deaths Thursday at the Fox’s Lane home appear to be the result of a tragic accident. The woman was babysitting her grandson.

Police received a 911 call from the address Thursday morning and found the victims unresponsive in the shallow, manmade pond. They say the small pond is surrounded by a low stone wall and fence enclosure about 2 1/2 feet high.

They were pronounced dead at Greenwich Hospital, and autopsies were scheduled to take place Saturday.

Their deaths remained under investigation.
