State Police Make Two Computer Pornography Arrests
State police say they’ve arrested two men in separate computer pornography cases. One was a U.S. Post Office worker arrested with images of pornography on his work computer, and the other had been previously included in the state sex offender regisry.
After a four-month investigation, the State Police Computer Crimes Unit, the Postal Service, the Postal Inspection Service and the Office of Inspector General seized a federal work computer used by 45-year-old John F. Gearhart of Willington after finding he had tried to use it to download child pornography. He’s charged with attempted possession and importing of child pornography, and police say there may be additional charges.
Police say an investigation of importation, distribution and possession of child pornography led to an arrest warrant for 42-year-old Luis Ayala of Hartford. Police say they found more than 5,000 images, video, texts and e-mails on his cellular phone related to use and distribution of pornography. He’s held in lieu of $150,000 bond, charged with obscenity, importing and possessing child pornography, and with enticing a minor, impairing the morals of a child and promoting a minor in an obscene performance.
