New Haven Principal Placed on Leave
The principal at a New Haven elementary school has been placed on leave as authorities investigate a report that a 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by classmates on a field trip.
Ramona Gatison, principal at the Lincoln-Bassett School, was put on leave after her superiors were notified of May 31 incident by the state Department of Children and Families last Thursday. It is state law that cases of suspected abuse be immediately reported.
School Superintendent Reginold Mayo says they are investigating why they were not notified by Gatison.
The girl told authorities that some eighth-grade classmates abused her during a school trip to Lighthouse Point Park.
The boys involved face expulsion hearings. The girl has been moved to a new classroom.
