Homeless Woman In Court On Drug Charges

A 33-year-old homeless woman accused of stealing public school services for her 5-year-old son has a date in court on separate drug charges.

Tanya McDowell was arrested Friday after selling allegedly selling crack cocaine and marijuana to undercover officers several times in Norwalk and Bridgeport.

She faces numerous charges including the illegal sale of drugs near a school at her arraignment on Monday in Norwalk Superior Court.

McDowell made national headlines after being charged with first-degree larceny and conspiracy for allegedly enrolling her son in kindergarten in Norwalk last fall using her baby sitter’s address. She is due back in court for those charges on July 12.

Her attorney, Darnell Crosland, says the drug investigation so soon after the school incident strikes him as strange.
