Waterbury Man Arrested On Drug Charges In Delaware

NEWPORT, Del. (AP) _ Delaware State Police have charged a Connecticut man with trafficking in marijuana after they say they found 45 pounds of the drug in the trunk of his car.

Forty-one-year-old Derrick Stewart of Waterbury, Conn., is also charged with maintaining a vehicle for keeping drugs and speeding. He is being held on $50,001 bond.

Troopers say Stewart was stopped Thursday about 1 p.m. because he was speeding on Interstate 95 in Newport. A trooper became suspicious and asked for a drug-sniffing dog.

Police say the dog alerted at the vehicle’s trunk, and officers found a large black duffel bag containing the marijuana.
