New Haven Man Charged With Stabbing Dog

A New Haven man has been charged with animal cruelty after police say stabbed his 8-month-old bulldog in Hamden.

Authorities say 25-year-old Alexander Bernard is being detained pending a June 6 hearing in Superior Court.

Police say they responded to an animal abuse call on Dixwell Avenue Wednesday afternoon and found the bulldog lying in blood in the driveway of a home. The dog is listed in stable condition at the North Haven Animal Hospital.

Authorities say the dog was stabbed with a 3-inch folding knife that was found at the scene.
