Policeman Wounded, Armed Man Killed In Manchester Standoff

MANCHESTER, Conn. (AP) _ Police have shot to death an armed man who had wounded an officer after barricading himself in a house with his wife and children in Manchester.

Police and tactical teams responded at the area around McKee Street just north of Hartford Road and closed area roads as gunshots rang out Thursday evening.

The standoff ended at around 7:15 p.m. when the man was shot. He was not identified.

The Hartford Courant identified the wounded officer as William Beeler. Manchester police Lt. Christopher David says the wounded officer was treated at a hospital and released.

There was no immediate word on what triggered the incident.
