Charter School Teacher Charged With Sexual Assault
Wallingford Police say a teacher at a New London charter school has been arrested on sexual assault charges involving a minor.
Jeffrey M. Francis, 23, of Durham was arrested early Wednesday at his home, said police. He is charged with two counts each of second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.
Police say the arrest follows a complaint on Sunday from a parent of the alleged victim.
Police say Francis and the juvenile met in a social networking chat room in April of last year and the relationship progressed to the point where they began meeting in-person in January. Francis opened a private account on Facebook under a pseudonym name with the sole purpose of communicating with the minor, said police.
Francis is a teacher at the Interdistrict School for Arts and Communication in New London, according to police.
He was held on $100,000 bond pending arraignment Wednesday in Meriden Superior Court.
